Hello, Barcelona! Last weekend, Elise van Breda and I had an incredible time facilitating and joining workshops at Mural Fest 2024, held at the beautiful Apocapoc BCN. It was three days dedicated to Sustainability and full of workshops, round tables, mindfulness, open mics, and meaningful conversations. With more than 20 workshops (and some in multiple languages), this volunteer-powered event offered something for everyone — and the atmosphere for learning and community building was just fantastic! 🌱
We brought the Planetary Boundaries Fresco with us to Barcelona, and it was amazing to see two full tables of participants excited to dig into the Earth systems that make our planet habitable. This workshop isn’t just about learning; it’s about sparking action to prevent planetary overshoot. Raising awareness of our global, interconnected challenges feels more critical than ever, and the engagement was inspiring. 🌍👨👩👦👦
We also had the chance to jump into other sessions ourselves, like the Ocean Collage (La Fresque Océane), which Lionel RAYBAUD brilliantly facilitated. I highly recommend it if you’re curious about what happens in and to the oceans and their critical role in climate regulation. Oceans cover 70% of the planet, absorb 90% of the sun’s energy, and take in around a quarter of our emitted carbon. Yet, they’re often left out of climate conversations. This workshop brings those insights to life, and you may also learn a thing or two about all the life in it! 🐳🌊
And a special shoutout to Marla Lise‘s Conscious Evolution workshop (Conscious Evolution Collage), which dives into the origins of our current challenges and the path to planetary regeneration. Together, we explored factors of unsustainability and their roots, all leading up to the Anthropocene. Such an inspiring discussion on charting a path forward!🧠🌍
Big thanks to Lucile de Castelbajac, Robin Delebecque, and Marie Mélinon for inviting us, and to the Spanish Fresking community at El Mural del Clima España for the warm welcome! Thank you to everyone who made this event a success! We met so many new, beautiful faces, and it was amazing to be part of such a dedicated community. A massive shoutout to all the organisers, facilitators, and volunteers who put in countless hours to make Mural Fest happen — it couldn’t have been done without you. The list of contributors is long, so please check the comments to see everyone involved (and apologies if I miss anyone!). Thank you, Julieta Maccarino, for the amazing photographs during our session! 🙏🙏
Elise and I will be around Barcelona for a few more weeks, so if there are any events or projects we should check out, please reach out — we’d love to connect!
