Did you know that sea turtles and many other marine creatures often mistake plastic bags for seagrass or jellyfish? When ingested, the plastic blockades their digestive system, eventually leading to death.
It is not only our used plastic bags that pollute the ocean. We produce about 400 billion tonnes of plastic in the form of cigarette butts, cans, bottles, cups, styrofoam, balloons, fishing gear, and so on. Many of these items end up in the ocean and kill wildlife. Nowadays, many people are aware of our plastic problem but seem to wait for someone else to solve it. But if not you, who? If not now, when? 🌊
Today is World Ocean Day. A day to take a moment to appreciate the ocean and all that lives in it. It is also a day to raise awareness that we are slowly turning it into an unhabitable death zone. If you haven’t already, watch the #seaspiracy documentary. ✌🌏🐟
