It’s pride month! Conscious consumerism: LGBTQ+

We want to show our support to the global LGBTQ+ community – always, but especially now because June is pride month 🌈

The products we find in our shopping malls are often made in countries with anti-gay laws like Myanmar or countries such as Turkey and China that censor and persecute organizations that fight for gay rights. One of the things we are trying to do with Somewhat Greener is to promote conscious consumerism. But, to make responsible choices, one needs to be informed. The lack of supply chain transparency of most brands makes this quite a challenge, if not impossible. Brands don’t share where their products are sourced/ manufactured/ packed on their website. Therefore, it is unknown if the people in their supply chain are fully protected. This needs to change.

These are two things we can do right now:
1. Ask brands to be transparent about their supply chain. Give them a call or send them an e-mail, a letter, or a message on social media. Ask them how they protect the people in their supply chain – #speakup
2. By purchasing products from ethical brands that are transparent about their supply chain. With every purchase, we strengthen the supply chain of the products we buy; this can be good, bad, or sometimes both.

We believe it is time that everyone speaks up in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Discrimination because of who we love is not a thing we can tolerate. There is enough love in the world for everyone! ♡
